
UKWMS Community Mourns the Loss of Prof. Dr. Veronica L. Diptoadi, M.Sc.
Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya family mourns the passing of Prof. Dr. Veronica L. Diptoadi, M.Sc. (9 December 1947 – 9 February 2026), Professor of the Faculty of Teacher Education and the English Language Education Study Program. Her departure is a tremendous loss for the entire academic community who witnessed her dedication and commitment over decades of service. She was widely recognized as a firm and consistent educator who played a significant role in strengthening academic quality within the university.
Born in Surabaya, Prof. Veronica completed her primary and secondary education in several Catholic schools in the city before pursuing her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Teacher Education of UKWMS. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she returned to her alma mater as a young lecturer and began her long academic journey. She later pursued her master’s degree in the Philippines through a scholarship from the Association of Catholic Higher Education Institutions and subsequently completed her doctoral studies at Universitas Negeri Malang.
Nearly three quarters of her life were devoted to UKWMS. In addition to being actively involved in teaching and research, she was entrusted with various positions, including serving as Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Education for two terms, Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, and Vice Rector IV for Cooperation. Despite carrying major administrative responsibilities, she remained academically productive and continued contributing academically until she attained the title of Professor.
The closing funeral was held on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, at the UKWMS Dinoyo Chapel. The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Rosary, attended by family members, university leaders, colleagues, students, and alumni. The Holy Mass was then commemorated for her life and lifelong dedication, followed by brief remarks and messages from representatives of the university and the family. The ceremony concluded in a solemn atmosphere before her body was taken back to the funeral home.
